Emerson Network Power launched a new higher-capacity transformer-free Liebert NX uninterrupted power supply (UPS) system Wednesday.

The new 225-600kVA UPS is available around the world for 480V, 60Hz applications. Emerson is selling it in North America, Latin America, the Philippines, Taiwan and Korea.

Peter Panfil, VP of global power at Emerson, said the new UPS was both highly reliable and energy efficient. “It provides high efficiency in both normal and Intelligent EcoMode operation—and superior reliability and availability needed to meet growing demand,” he said.

The product features Emerson’s Softscale technology, which allows it to be sized to current power requirements and gradually scaled to larger capacity. This defers cost for UPS capacity not needed at the moment until the need arises.

The interesting thing about Softscale, is it scales the system’s capacity through a software key and not through additional physical hardware. The actual UPS footprint does not grow with capacity.

On the efficiency side, Emerson says the system operates at 95% efficiency at 40-80% load in its normal double-conversion mode. Kick it into its Intelligent Eco mode, and it will deliver 99% efficiency.

The Eco mode allows the system to run on bypass power under certain customer-defined conditions. This no-brake mode maintains power to the rectifier and keeps the inverter energized and synchronized with the input for fast, no-break return to full double-conversion mode, according to Emerson.
