EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) has energized the final 100MW segment of its 300MW Riverstart Solar Park in Randolph County, Indiana.

The 100MW Riverstart III Solar Park (Riverstart III) is contracted to Amazon via a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Under the terms of the PPA, Amazon will offtake the entire capacity of the solar farm.

Riverstart III uses 145MW of solar panels from Boviet, Siemens Gamesa inverters, and Array Technologies trackers.

The first 200MW segment of the solar park was brought online in January 2022, and is tied to a 20-year PPA with Hoosier Energy Cooperative, a US generation and transmission cooperative.

"The continued growth of our portfolio in Indiana with the launch of this newest phase of Riverstart Solar is yet another example of the significant contribution that renewables and solar play to serve the Hoosier State's growing energy needs," said Sandhya Ganapathy, CEO, EDP Renewables North America.

Following the commissioning of Riverstart, EDPR NA currently operates 11 phases across projects in Indiana, with a combined capacity of 1.7GW. The company produces up to 30 percent of all wind, solar, and battery storage across the state.

The PPA is Amazon's first in the state for almost ten years. In 2015, the company signed a 13-year PPA with Pattern Energy for up to 500,000MWh of power from the Fowler Ridge wind farm in Indiana.

The latest PPA follows an announcement of a new $11 billion data center campus in Indiana, expected to be located in St. Joseph County. The data center will be the largest capital investment in Indiana’s history.

Amazon has signed several PPAs in 2025 so far. In February, it signed a PPA with ERG Group for energy from the 47.3MW Corlacky wind farm in Londonderry County, Northern Ireland.

Before this, it signed three PPAs with Iberdrola across Spain and Portugal for 476MW of power. The three projects are expected to supply Amazon with 1,093GWh per year.
