Disney has bought 26 acres of land in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, to build a data center, according to a report by The Shelby Star.
Citing a deed filed with local authorities, The Star reported that the land Disney purchased is part of the T5 data center park in Kings Mountain.
The city government is currently seeking two grants to extend a water line to the property, which the paper says is necessary for the data center plan come to fruition. The grants total US$60,000.
Local officials are referring to the build as "Project Roosevelt", not to be confused with a Dell build in Washington State with the same code name.
According to T5, its site in Kings Mountain currently includes a 150,000-sq-ft powered data center shell (which was scheduled for delivery in the first quarter), as well as 260-plus acres for additional build-to-suit data center projects.
As we reported in October 2010, the powered shell has been leased out to an unnamed client.
The site offers up to 120MW of power from Duke Energy at $0.039-$0.046 per 1kWh. The connectivity providers are AT&T, Time Warner Cable, Charter, PalmettoNet, DukeNet, AGL and RST.
T5 is also marketing wholesale data center space in Maiden, North Carolina, and in Atlanta.
