The 515-acre project is located some 20 miles east of Richmond. Details on the number and capacity of planned data centers were not shared.

Diode has submitted a conditional rezoning application for the project parcels to Light Industrial (M-1). County staff has recommended approval. The planning commission is set to host the public hearing for the application on April 10.

An original zoning application for the project was submitted last November. A revised application was submitted in February.

Construction on the project would reportedly take seven to ten years.

While Northern Virginia is the commonwealth’s major data center market, Richmond has a large and growing number of data centers.

The likes of Tract, Iron Mountain, Meta, PointOne, Blue Owl, QTS, DC Blox, Province Group, and others have data centers in operation and developing facilities in and around Richmond.

Black & Veatch subsidiary Diode Ventures has developed several data center parks around Kansas City and is planning more in the area. Meta and Google are customers. It also has a project in Idaho.
