The site is the nation’s first and only Uptime-certified Tier IV data center.

The company said: “This state-of-the-art facility sets a new benchmark for digital infrastructure in the Maldives, ensuring unmatched security, fault tolerance, and high availability. It also strengthens Dhiraagu Cloud Iaas, empowering businesses to host critical applications and scale with confidence.”

Further specifications of the data center have not been provided.

Dhiraagu is the landing partner for the SeaMeWe-6 cable, which landed in the Maldives in August last year. The cable is still two years away from activation. The telco is also a landing partner for the DSCoM subsea cable, which, in collaboration with Ooredoo, connects eight islands across the Maldives.

Qatari telco Ooredoo built a data center on the island of Hulhumalé, the Maldives, in its smart city in March 2021.

Hulhumalé is a reclaimed artificial island built up by pumping sand from the sea floor. Work began on the 4 sqkm (1.5 sq mi) island in 1997, and it was inaugurated in 2004. It is the fourth largest of the 187 inhabited islands in the Maldives.
