Deutsche Telekom (DT) has announced that its CEO Tim Höttges has extended his contract at the telco giant until the end of 2028.

The company also revealed that it has promoted Srini Gopalan, previously in charge of Deutsche Telekom's German business, as the carrier's new chief operating officer of T-Mobile US.

As part of the restructuring, Rodrigo Diehl, the boss of Magenta Telekom's business in Austria, will replace Gopalan as of March 1, 2025.

Höttges' contract had been due to run out at the end of next year, but the supervisory board opted to extend it by an additional two years.

He's been the CEO of DT since January 2014 and has been at the carrier since 2000.

"The realignment will help us to successfully implement our ambitious goals: We want to make even greater use of global economies of scale and continue to deliver top performance," said Höttges.

Gopalan, who has previously worked for Indian carrier Bharti Airtel, has been a member of the Board of Management Germany and spokesman of the Board of Management of Telekom Deutschland GmbH since November 1, 2020.

Prior to this, from January 1, 2017, to October 31, 2020, Gopalan was a member of the Board of Management of Deutsche Telekom AG responsible for the Europe segment, during which he oversaw the expansion of 5G.

Meanwhile, Diehl has been CEO of DT's Austrian subsidiary since October 2022. Prior to this, he was responsible for Deutsche Telekom's European private customer business.
