Data center real estate investment trust CyrusOne has appointed Anthony Rizzo as the head of its public sector and federal team.

Rizzo previously worked at data center service provider CPG Beyond, before which he was the SVP of public sector for Schneider Electric MCSS.

“I am excited to join the CyrusOne team as we accelerate our work for our public sector customers,” Rizzo said.

“Cloud computing deployments continue to be a major priority for the public sector. With a large and established global data center footprint, CyrusOne is well-positioned to help our public sector partners achieve their goals as they migrate and transition to ‘As a Service Platforms.’ I look forward to working with my colleagues to help implement and deploy the next-generation of secured cloud systems for our global customers and the US government.”

David Ferdman, interim president and CEO at CyrusOne, added: “As CyrusOne moves forward in the industry, Anthony’s presence will provide guidance on the intersection of public sector growth and implementing cloud-based technologies and will ultimately lead to a new era of ways government agencies look at the data center space.”

Rizzo will be based out of Northern Virginia, the world's largest data center hotspot, and close to the seat of US power.

CyrusOne operates eight data centers in Northern Virginia, spanning more than 1.9 million square feet (176,500 sq m). This year, the company plans to shift management of those facilities - and all of its 30 US data centers - to JLL.

The business is also in the midst of being acquired by KKR and Global Infrastructure Partners for $15 billion.

This month has also seen former CyrusOne CEO Tesh Durvasula join Cassava Technologies to lead Africa Data Centres.
