CA Technologies has launched a new version of infrastructure management system Nimsoft Monitor which it says delivers better metrics and some automated problem correction functions.

The vendor has promised a single, unified architecture to support traditional data centers, and virtualization and cloud environments.

The current options for managing services, applications and technologies are too complicated for data center and IT service managers, CA said.

It claims it has simplified the challenges of multiple-tenancies with a ‘plug and play’ architecture.

“IT leaders can no longer be satisfied cobbling together dozens of tools to monitor the health of their infrastructure,” said John Smith, general manager, Infrastructure Management at CA Technologies.

“Nimsoft Monitor helps IT pros to spend less time managing their management tools.”

The new release promises performance trending and root cause analysis; better reporting tools and dashboards and easy customization. It has created new dynamic thresholds with a more discerning alert system, in order to minimize false alarms created when devices are down for scheduled maintenance.

The dashboard can be set up on any HTML5 enabled browsers and on a range of mobile devices.

The data centers of many organizations are stuck in reactive mode, Jim Frey, analyst firm EMA's research VP, said.

Many are overwhelmed by information coming from far too many point tools.

“Too often, the focus is on assigning blame rather than working together to solve the problem,” Frey said.

He added that CA is seeking to bring unity to the data center by helping teams focus instead on a common goal of customer satisfaction.

The new release also offers VMware vSphere performance views that provide data related to vSphere hosts, guests and Virtual Center management systems within a single interface.
