Blackstone and Panchshil Realty are set to build what they claim is India’s largest data center campus in Navi Mumbai, India.
The 500MW campus will span 3 million sq ft (278,709 sqm) across 14 buildings and will be powered by up to 65 percent renewable energy, as reported by the Marksmen Daily.
The build will see an investment of INR 20,000 crore ($2.3bn).
The facility will likely be built at Gramercy Info Park’s 50-acre site, located adjacent to Reliance Corporate Park in Navi Mumbai.
Gramercy Info Park is a subsidiary of Panchshil Realty.
This is not Blackstone’s first investment in the country, having more than $50 billion in assets under management across India. Almost half of its investments are concentrated in Maharashtra.
Blackstone currently has two ongoing data center projects with Lumina CloudInfra in Navi Mumbai, each with an investment of more than $300 million.
Whilst the project is being slated as India’s largest facility, earlier this year Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries pledged to build the ‘world’s largest’ data center in Jamnagar, India.
Navi Mumbai has become a popular location for data centers, with NTT, Sify Technologies, Colt, Reliance, STT, AdaniConneX, Equinix, and AWS having a presence in the market. Digital Edge is also developing a facility in Navi Mumbai.
Last year, Google was reportedly looking to acquire land in Navi Mumbai for its first self-built data center in the country.
At the end of last year, a report by JLL said India’s data center capacity would increase 66 percent by 2026, with Navi Mumbai emerging as a key data center location.
