The Belarusian government has announced plans to deploy a single 5G network in the country.

As reported by BelTA, a Belarusian-focused news agency, the country's President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed a decree aimed at developing 5G in Belarus.

This will support the development of modern infrastructure of telecommunications networks in the country.

BelTA reports that a single infrastructure operator model for the 5G rollout in the country will be implemented with the inclusion of a single network of cellular mobile telecommunications on LTE (4G) technology.

The government didn't provide a timeframe for when 5G is expected to be launched.

At present, 5G services have not yet been launched in Belarus, although testing has previously taken place in the country.

State-owned Beltelcom said in 2021 that it had "successfully tested" 5G testing in Belarus, while another telco, A1, also paired with Chinese vendor ZTE to test the 5G Standalone (5G SA) technology the year earlier.

It's not known whether Belarus' 5G network will be supported by domestic or foreign network vendors.
