Engineering firm Avacon has announced it has topped out its Sehnde data center in the Hanover region of Germany.
First announced in 2023, the Avacon Data Center GbmH is being developed in a joint venture between Avacon’s Avacon Connect and enviaM subsidiary enviaTEL.
The project is set to see a €40 million ($43.65m) investment and includes a 2,000 sqm (21,530 sq ft) facility, capable of housing around 28,000 servers.
The shell is expected to be completed shortly, with construction of the interior having begun in January. Completion is slated for July 2025.
Mayor of the City of Sehnde, Olaf Kruse, said: “The Avacon data center is growing impressively quickly. The fact that we can already celebrate the topping out ceremony today shows the precision and professionalism with which work is carried out here. The data center will not only be an important building block for the region’s digital infrastructure, but also a sign of economic strength and innovation. We are delighted that Sehnde is the location of such a pioneering project.”
Avacon Connect provides Internet and networking solutions to customers in Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. Its parent company Avacon specializes in engineering solutions across the electronics, glass, energy, and water management sectors.
Based in Markkleeberg, envia TEL is a regional telecommunications service provider and network operator in Central Germany. The company already operates a data center campus in Leipzig and announced plans to expand the facility in October last year.
Hanover is currently home to operators such as nLighten and Exa Infrastructure.
