Anthropic is reportedly in talks to lease more compute capacity from Nscale's Monach data center campus.

As reported by Bloomberg, citing a person familiar with the matter, the contract could be valued up to $45 billion, which would make it the second agreement of this size made between the AI lab and neocloud.

According to the source, the agreement would see Anthropic take up space in a second data center at Nscale's under-development campus in West Virginia. The agreement would be for 460MW of capacity and would include Nvidia's Vera Rubin chips.

Anthropic reportedly also has the right of first refusal on the third building at the campus.

DCD has contacted both Anthropic and Nscale for comment.

Anthropic and Nscale first signed a contract in August of this year, also for 460MW of capacity at the Monarch campus.

The Monarch campus in West Virginia is Nscale's largest project. The company acquired the 2,250-acre site in March 2026. The site has the potential to have up to 8GW of capacity, with the first phase planned at 2GW and expected to be online by the first half of 2028. Power will be provided by Caterpillar's fast-response natural gas generator sets – the Caterpillar G3500 series.

Microsoft has also signed on for 1.35GW of capacity at the site, for which Nscale is to set up a large-scale GPU deployment based on the Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 GPUs.

The news of another possible major contract comes at a good time for Nscale, with Microsoft having pulled out of one of its capacity deals with the neocloud earlier this week due to issues with the UK's grid connection queue.

Both Anthropic and Nscale are rapidly approaching their planned initial public offerings (IPOs). Nscale published its IPO prospectus in September, which noted that Nscale has five active data centers offering a combined 55MW, with 12 in various stages of development. Anthropic confidentially filed in June 2026.
