American Tower Corporation has appointed Eugene Noel as its new global chief operating officer (COO).

Noel, who is currently EVP and president of ATC's US Tower division, will become EVP and COO on January 13, 2025.

The tower company stated that the newly created role will see Noel oversee ATC's global operations and IT, as the business aims to boost operational efficiency.

Noel has been at ATC since 2011, joining as senior VP for the company's US Tower operations, before being appointed to his current role in 2023.

Prior to joining the tower company, Noel held leadership positions at Sprint Nextel and LightSquared.

American Tower also announced that Richard Rossi, currently senior VP and general counsel of US Tower, will take on Noel's former position at the firm.

Rossi, who has been at American Tower since 2001, will also begin the role on January 13, 2025.

“The new COO position will be an important addition to my team, enabling us to deliver our industry-leading customer service even more effectively and efficiently by accelerating the development and application of new technologies and operating capabilities across our global platform," said Steve Vondran, president and CEO of American Tower Corporation.

American Tower owns and operates more than 226,000 telecommunications assets across 24 countries. In the US, the company also owns 28 data centers after it agreed to acquire data center operator CoreSite for $10.1 billion back in 2021.

Last year, the company told DCD that it plans to leverage its existing tower assets and vast footprint across the US to deploy Edge data centers.
