Amazon has signed another Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in the UK for renewable energy.

The company has signed a deal with energy developer Statkraft to offtake power from the Mossy Hill wind farm near Lerwick in Shetland, Scotland.

The company now has more than 50 carbon-free energy agreements across the UK, representing more than 1GW of power.

Of those projects, 41 are for solar installations on Amazon's logistics estates. The rest are a combination of off-site wind and solar projects.

The Mossy Hill wind farm is expected to become operational in 2030, with Amazon offtaking some 36MW of capacity.

"Our latest project in the Shetland Islands builds on years of investment in renewable energy across the UK," said John Boumphrey, Amazon UK and Ireland country manager. "From the Shetland Islands to the coasts of England, our renewable energy investments are creating real jobs and powering local communities. Last year we announced our plan to invest £40 billion ($53bn) in the UK by 2027, and the transition to a lower-carbon economy is a part of how we're putting that commitment to work."

Kevin O'Donovan, Statkraft's UK and Ireland country manager, added: "We're pleased to have agreed a partnership with Amazon for our Mossy Hill Wind Farm in Shetland, which gives us the certainty to move the project forward. Shetland has a proud history of energy production, and as the country shifts towards more homegrown renewable power, we're proud to be playing our part in that transition."

Amazon previously signed a 90MW PPA in the UK in June of this year for the Chirmorie Wind Farm in South Ayrshire, Scotland, operated by Egg Power.

Other deals in the region include with ERG in Northern Ireland, Iberdrola in East Anglia, and Ocean Winds in Scotland.

Statkraft is a European renewable energy provider, spanning hydropower, solar, and wind power.
