Alibaba Cloud has launched a second data center in Thailand.
The data center, unveiled today, has been deployed to meet increased demand in the country.
According to the company, the dual data centers will enable Alibaba Cloud to provide "scalable, elastic, and highly available cloud computing products with enhanced disaster recovery capabilities tailored to Thailand’s dynamic digital landscape while adhering to stringent security and regulatory standards.”
“Our latest data center strengthens our commitment to providing reliable, secure, and high-performance cloud services tailored to the needs of local businesses,” said Sean Yuan, vice president of international business at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence. “With enhanced local infrastructure, we aim to empower enterprises to leverage the full potential of cloud technology, especially in generative AI applications.”
Alibaba launched its first data center in Thailand in 2022, having shared plans for the cloud region the previous October.
Details about the data centers have not been shared, including locations or IT capacity.
In May 2024, Alibaba outlined its plans for global expansion, including a cloud region in Mexico and building out in Thailand, the Philippines, and South Korea.
The latest launch in Thailand brings Alibaba Cloud's footprint to 86 availability zones across 28 regions globally.
Tencent also has a cloud region in Thailand with two availability zones within Bangkok, and Amazon Web Services launched its first Thailand region in January of this year. Microsoft and Google are both building data centers in the country, announcing plans in May and September 2024 respectively.
