Chinese cloud company Alibaba Cloud has launched its first Mexican cloud region.

After first announcing its plans to extend its cloud offering to Mexico in May 2024, the company's suite of cloud products is now available in the country.

The Mexico region is located in Querétaro, and has one availability zone. The new region brings Alibaba's total network to 87 availability zones across 29 regions. Details about the data center hosting the region have not been shared.

“The launch of our Mexico Region underscores our long-term commitment to serving this vibrant market,” said Selina Yuan, president of International Business, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence. “We are not only bringing world-class cloud technology to support local businesses, but also building an inclusive and thriving ecosystem in Mexico together with our local partners, developers, and customers to foster innovation, collaboration, and sustainable growth across Latin America.”

Yuan added that customers will be able to use Alibaba Cloud's global network to tap into other markets - especially in Asia. "Local businesses will benefit from Alibaba Cloud’s technology expertise, market insights, and dedicated support across regions to expand their global footprint,” Yuan said.

Alibaba has held a customer service center in Mexico City since 2022 to support its customers in the region. An early customer for the new region is Limac, a Mexican IT company.

"With Alibaba Cloud’s reliable infrastructure and security solutions, we’ve accelerated our growth while ensuring compliance. The launch of the Mexico Region enables us to deploy local resources and expand our IT solutions across Latin America, empowering millions of SMBs in their digital transformation. With cutting-edge technology and cost-effective solutions, Alibaba Cloud is the ideal partner to drive this evolution," said José Limón, CEO of Limac.

The launch comes just a week after Alibaba opened a new data center in Thailand; its second in the country. The company's first in Thailand was launched in 2022.

The big US cloud providers all have cloud regions in Mexico. Amazon Web Services (AWS) launched its cloud region in the country in January 2025, and Google launched a region in December 2024 also in Querétaro

After announcing plans in 2020, Microsoft launched its first Mexican Azure cloud region, in Querétaro State, in May of 2024. The company has since announced plans to invest another $1.3 billion in Mexico to “enhance AI infrastructure.”

Oracle launched its first Mexican cloud region in Querétaro in June 2022, shortly followed by the announcement of a second in September 2022 which will be hosted in an América Móvil-owned Telmex data center.
