As part of the government’s Plan Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo this week announced the $3.7 billion investment by the Mexican company Fermaca Dreams.

The development will include a 250MW data center; a 2,000km (1242 miles) fiber network connecting northern Mexico to Querétaro, with branches extending to Guadalajara and Durango; a 160km gas pipeline from Texas to Durango; and a 350MW on-site combined cycle power plant.

Further details on the data center were not shared. Construction is reportedly set to begin in the coming weeks.

As well as the data center, Fermaca aims to develop Fermachem, a plant to produce green fertilizers.

Secretary of the economy, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, explained that of the total investment, $1 billion will be allocated to the construction of the fertilizer plant and $2.7 billion to the digital city.

Fermaca Dreams is a Mexican holding company with units focused on energy, infrastructure, networks, boats, transport, engineering, security services, and more.

Fermaca’s Networks unit, which is developing a 1,950km dark fiber network running from the US-Mexico border to the west and central regions of Mexico, has previously partnered with ServerDomes to deploy small data centers along the fiber route.
