With power and sustainability, the focal point of future digital infrastructure developments, the RISE team at the ICE datacenter unit in Lulea designed, built, and operated between winter and summer a proof-of-concept micro-edge data center.  The demonstrator adopted ISO containers for outside deployment and operated with very low noise on locally produced biogas with direct heat recovery for space heating.

This showcase will show the results and learnings of building and operating the demonstrator, funded by the EU under the WEDistrict project (wedistrict.eu) including the technologies that enabled the data center to use second life IT equipment in a single-phase liquid immersed cooling approach and high temperature solid oxide fuel cells to generate electricity and low-grade heat.
