The data center has an estimated server area of 5,000 sq m and uses high density cooling. It will begin operations in February this year.

Latency is one of the data center key focusses, with the data center being designed to connect to key trading markets around the world, including Chicago, Tokyo and Hong Kong using an ultra-low latency infrastructure and connections to the Asia Submarine Cable Express and Pacific Crossing Submarine Cable.

NTT strategically located the Serangoon Data Center close to stock exchanges and low latency networks in preparation for an increase in algorithmic trading in Asia.

NTT Singapore President and CEO Takeshi Kazami said overall, the company expects 40% of its expansion to come from Asian markets in coming years.

“Many of the world’s major financial institutions are increasingly shifting their focus to Asia, and this has seen the growth of the Asian financial hubs, particularly in Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo,” Kazami said.

“The Singapore Serangoon Data Center puts NTT Communications in a prime position to support the connectivity needs of the financial sector.

“This move also supports our strategy to expand businesses in the fast-growing Asian region which is expected to account for 40% of the global economy in 2030.”

NTT said this new data center has been built with mission critical facilities in mind, adhering to a Tier IV standard.

It has also followed environmentally friendly building principals, receiving the Green Mark Platinum Award, as handed down by the Singapore Building and Construction Authority for its water and energy utilization.

NTT operates another data center in Tai Seng, called Tai Seng 2, which covers 22,000 sq ft and has connections to more than 20 carriers.
