Dell, which has been basking in IDC’s recent announcement it has x86 server market share in the Americas, has released its Twelfth generation of PowerEdge 12th servers designed to harness the benefits of Windows Server 2012.

Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V can be used with the servers to scale and secure workloads and virtualize the data center for building cloud environments and can manage infrastructure more efficiently, according to Dell.

The models - M420 and C6220 - have enhanced IO throughput and large memory support and when combined with Dell’s end-to-end Desktop virtualization Solutions and Microsoft Remote Desktop Service can reduce the cost per seat, according to Dell.

Dell has designed the servers to fit its vStart virtualized infrastructure solutions – pre-engineered, prebuilt and pre-tested components. This acts as a reference architecture, according to Dell,  for the easy deployment of the Cloud services.

The 12th generation of PowerEdge also includes new management capabilities with the Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller which can integrate with System Center 2012 for server management and Lifecycle Controller Integration for automated, remote firmware server updates through a single console independent of the operating system and hypervisor.

Dell Server Solutions VP and general manager Forrest Norrod said the biggest benefits Windows Server 2012 brings are capabilities for high density and scalable deployments.

“This strong partnership has resulted in innovations that accelerate systems deployment and provisioning, and now with agent-free monitoring through OpenManage integration Suite for Systems Center 2012,” Norrod said.

Just this week, IDC announced in its Q2 2012 Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker that Dell has now achieved a 34.8% market segment share for its x86 server shipments.
