After initially calling for a six-month moratorium on the development of large artificial intelligence models, billionaire Elon Musk has said he will develop a large AI model.

The Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter head said that he will launch the 'TruthGPT' platform, under a new business called X.AI. Musk recently purchased around 10,000 GPUs for Twitter (which he has rebranded X Corp), and it is not clear if the systems will be shared with X.AI.

"I'm going to start something which I call 'TruthGPT,' or a maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe," Musk said in an interview with Fox News' Tucker Carlson.

He claimed that making the AI curious about the universe would protect humanity, as humans are interesting. For a comparison, he said that humans "could decide to hunt down all the chimpanzees and kill them, but we don't."

In fact, the western chimpanzee population has declined by 80 percent in just the past 25 years, and a broad swathe of 'interesting' animals have been driven to extinction. Last year, it was revealed that Musk's other company, Neuralink, was responsible for invasive brain experiments on monkeys that killed at least 25 and subjected the others to "extreme suffering."

Musk said that OpenAI's models were being trained to be "politically correct, which is simply a way of saying untruthful things." He previously tweeted: “The danger of training AI to be woke - in other words, lie - is deadly.”

The Center for Countering Digital Hate found that hate speech on Twitter has increased substantially since the acquisition.

The new X.AI is planning to use Twitter data to train its model, the Financial Times reports. Musk has hired Igor Babuschkin, a former DeepMind employee, and roughly half a dozen other engineers.
